Established in 2010 by Dr. Avishai Gruengard and Dr. Anat Milner-Roterman, the HaClinica Animal Hospital‘s stated mission “is first and foremost animal welfare and caring for the health of its patients. HaClinica provides patients with professional and dedicated care using the most advanced medical equipment in surgery, imaging, laboratory work and internal medicine.” With that said, you might think the clinic’s veterinarians never had to treat a snail with a broken shell. As a matter of fact, they DO have experience in this sort of thing. Therefore, when the latest shell-shocked patient arrived they were up to the task and immediately accepted the challenge.
“For the broken shell, we need a combination of patience and finesse with epoxy glue,” staffers posted on the clinic’s Facebook page. “We make sure the glue stays outside the shell and does not penetrate the inner patch.” The clinic was kind enough to document the snail’s surgery online, thus raising awareness that such a thing was possible.
